We were informed two days ago that we will not be recieving paychecks this pay period. Our company has apparently been in a financial crunch, eventhough we are showing a profit. This morining a blow up occured in our office and the owner said he was closing the doors. Will I quailfy for unemployment and can I recover my owed wages?

Unless you were fired for misconduct, you should get unemployment benefits.
File a wage claim for unpaid wages if pay day passes and you don't get your pay.

Yes, I see no reason you wouldn't qualify for unemployment.
Terminated employees in NC must receive their final pay no later than the regularly scheduled payday so, theoretically, there is no violation of law until that time comes and goes and you haven't been paid. Here is the actual law that you might want to show him ASAP and see if he changes his tune.

Craig, they are obligated to pay you for the time you worked. IF they don't pay up on payday then call the US Dept of Labor Wage and Hour division. Don't hesitate. They have offices in most of the larger cities in NC, just look in the government section of the phone book. (Blue pages). Those folks can help you get the money the employer owes you. Good luck.

State DOL would probably get faster results (although "fast" is relative). The federal DOL is innundated with claims from employees in states that don't have their own. :(
