I recently gave up a job of 6 years. I started a new job on Aug 4. On Friday, Oct 19, my dm called and said to have everyone there Monday, Oct 22 to watch movies and to bring popcorn and coke. Everyone came in a the requested time along with a manager from another store, who just happens to be a good friend of my DM. Shortly a man came in wearing a suit and went to the backrrom. My assisant was taken to the backroom and we were instructed NOT to go anywhere near the door. She was with this man for bout 3 hours.I heard the door open and I did not see her leave. I was then taken back there. He had positioned a hard plastic chair under the ac vent. I was told to sit and he began to tell me about himself. He was wih loss prevention and what we were bout to discuss I was not to talk about with NO ONE. I thought my assistant had done something wrong. He then informed me that my store had been under surveillance for the last 6 months. He tried to get me to confess to things I had not done. Such as stealing and doing false returns and pocketing the money. He was very intidimating and threatening. After bout 2 hours I was told to hand in my keys, go home and he would dall me to let me know if I could return to work. That was 4 days ago and I have not heard anything. There are more incidents that happened that day but this will give you an idea of how this company treats its employees. Do I have legal recourse?

It appears there is an investigation in progress. Seems that the behavior of the loss prevention office may have been a little heavy-handed, but I don't see anything illegal in your post. You haven't been terminated yet, right?

I have not heard from the company as to the status of my employment but the person at the unemployment office said it sounded to her that I was fired

Even if not fired it would b ein your best interest to start looking for new work. Sounds like LP is grabbing at straws and hoping they can pressure the culprit to confess. However ther eis nothing illegal in this action as stated

I have started looking for a new job since they could not pay me enough to go back to work for that company nor will I shop here or any other one they own.

Please note, though, that if you actually resign now, it's unlikely you would get UI benefits. Being under investigation is not, in and of itself a "reason connected with the work" that would qualify you for UI.

You can file for UI now because you are temporarily not working. Now, if the company comes back and says, "you may come back to work now" and you refuse, then that's considered a voluntary termination and I could foresee your UI benefits stopping at that point.

yes I understand that since I cannot afford to sit and wait for them to call, I must do what I have to do to have an income. They told the 2nd key person the same thing. She called them to find out if she had a job and they told her she was fired but they gave her a phone number to call and not me. The other manager that was there that day was there when I went to exchange a pair of shoes and this was her store for 17 years. I ask her when did she get her store back and her answer was "officially Monday" So they all knew Monday what was going to happen.

Have you called to check your status? If not, call. The worst that can happen is they tell you are terminated.

I do not have a number to call unless I call the store and ask that manager but she is not allowed to give out information and she said she knows nothing about what happened

The way their phone system is set up is you have to have the extension number of the person you wish to speak to. All is voice mail.

Or ask that manager for the number.

Is there a corporate office? If so you should be able to find that number. Is this a chain store? If so contact another store for info on corporate

Unless there is a different set of rules for each manager, which there probably is, I was not allowed to give that information out

Well I tried he number and got the auomaed service asking for the voice mail box number of who I wanted to leave a message. I think this company has watched too many spy movies or are paranoid.

Yes. Leave a message. Wait for a response back. If he answers, then ask if you still have a job.

I just found out that my sister was offered this position and when she said no they ask her if she knew a christian person that would be inerested. Is this not discrimination?
