Evening all,
I recently purchased a condo in June of '07 and it has been a nightmare since.
The upstairs condo has laminate wooden floors with no padding underneath and the original building was not built with any insulation or sound proofing in between floors.
After constant complaints about them, they complained about our dog's weight that was within the limits of the condo's laws.
Finally got fed up with it, put it on craigslist.org for Lease to Purchase and got a hit! After breaking the news to the condo association, they had given me the list of disclosures I need to give to any future buyer.
Being affected by Hurricane Katrina, our fireplace is not working and waiting to be repaired. It was found that there is a mold problem in our condo and needs to be addressed. This was presented to me about a month ago for the first time. After further talking to the condo association, I was sent via e-mail a letter that went out to the condo ground unit floor owners back in August 2006 showing this. On a scale of 0-300 with 300 behind the highest and can't be measured any higher, we are a 300 in my unit.
Talking to the condo association president, they do not have money in their budget to cover all the repairs needed after bad money management by the board of directors.
With this being said, I am tired of this condo complex and now I am being told there might be a $5k assessment to fix the mold problem and another $3-4k to fix the fireplaces after a shortfall of money. My question is what are my options? I think the mold problem is a big problem and now feeling upset about all the money I have to dish out.
I talked to the condo association president for a little today and she said it might be possible to sue the former owner for the costs or might be even able to void the act of sale and get out of this condo?
Thanks for all your help.
