I worked for a company for 2 months. In that time, the controller had said very bad things about the person previously in my position, very bad things about all employees when not around and very bad things about myself while employed there and right thereafter of being terminated with no explanation.

Is this legal?

It depends on exactly what was said.

They are entitled to say anything that is true or that represents their honest opinion.
