I recently resigned from a company - I received my final base paycheck, but my commission pay check I did not receive. I called to inquire why (as previous employers have always paid me my commission) and I was informed that they could hold my commission check for up to 6 months .... I have never heard of such a thing, is that true?

When are commissions "earned"? They can't "hold" them, but they can not pay them until they are earned and the amount can be accurately calculated.
