JoeC ElleMD 09-18-2007, 08:30 AM Nope, that would be a matter of company policy, not law. DAW 09-18-2007, 08:41 AM Only four states (Alaska, California, Colorado, Nevada - plus Puerto Rico) have daily overtime rules, and California is the only one of those with "double time" rules. All other states are legally only effected by the federal "hours worked past 40 in the work week" rule. As noted, employeers can choose to have more favorable OT rules, but this is not a legal requirement. ScottB 09-18-2007, 09:52 AM Don't look to Mississippi to have laws favorable to employees, let alone any comparable to California (which is arguably the state most friendly to employees). Mississippi has no minimum wage laws, no laws requiring overtime, breaks, lunch periods. Aside from Workers' Compensation, the state appears to have nothing at all and employees can only rely upon federal laws for anything else. http://www.mississippi.gov/ms_sub_sub_template.jsp?Category_ID=7009 cbg 09-18-2007, 11:23 AM I would agree with Scott's assessment. CA is the only state that EVER requires double time and CA does not require it except in very limited circumstances. |
