I was employed as my administrator's assistance. I was called into the office and told that i was being demoted due to the fact that my administrator heard in the streets that I had stated that I was doing her job. My employer advised me then that I would not be replaced, yet in a couple of weeks, I was. My days off , which I had worked approximatley 7 yrs to get to, were Sat. and Sun. My Saturday was taken away due to the fact that my administrator said that only one female was needed on my shift and more males needed. Following this, a male was given Sat. off. Finally, in a called meeting with myself and all of the other employees of my shift present, my administrator began the meeting stating that I came to them and stated that everyone was talking about her and that caused changes to take place at our place of employment. I never stated this to my employer. I asked on several occassions for a write up of my demotion, but to no avail. Will filing a grivance against my employer be advisable. I have been told by other employees that they have been warned to be careful when talking around me. Is this harrassment for believing that I was gossiping about them. Please help. Work is unbearable.

From what you wrote, this doesn't qualify as "retaliation" in the employment law sense of the word. Retaliation would be taking an adverse employment action against you because you exercised a legal right (like whistleblowing about something illegal).

Same deal with harassment. Even though this might be considered "harassment" in everyday terms, it wouldn't be "harassment" in legal terms. It would have to be harassment based on your belonging to a protected class (based on your gender, race, nation of origin, etc).

The only thing that might have a sliver of a changce of being illegal is the thing about a male getting preferential treatment over a female. But there's not enough info here to know for sure.

The rest of the stuff isn't illegal. Gossiping or telling others that a person is a gossip might be unprofessional behaviors, but not illegal.

I agree - from what you posted there doesn't seem to be anything illegal here.

I'm sorry work is unbearable. It might end up where your best bet would be to look for other employment if it gets too unbearable.
