My husband works from home. He has been working for this company for 6 months. We moved to Arizona about a month ago. He has never been required to take a lunch break. This morning he gets an email from his supervisor saying that he has to take a 30 or 60 minute unpaid break by Arizona law. So he would have to extend his hours to accommodate this break. My question is does Arizona or the federal goverment require lunch breaks? Where can I get the proof of this information?
Although neither the Federal government nor the state of Arizona requires lunch breaks, it doesn't matter. If the employer wants him to take a lunch break, he takes a lunch break. Even if it is not required by law, it is still the employer's perogative to require it and he can legally be fired for not complying.

They have never required this before and they are saying it is an "Arizona law" and that is why he has to take a lunch. His supervisor has a micro-management issue, even though the head boss man makes it very clear this is not how things are to be done. This is not the first time this supervisor has twisted things to benefit her decisions. That is why we wanted to be very clear on Arizona law. Thank you for your help it is very helpful.
They are mistaken about it being Arizona law. However, as I said, it doesn't matter. It also doesn't matter if they've required this before; they are requiring it now and that is their right.
For some reason, a great many people have it in their heads that if the law does not require something, the employer cannot either. That is not the case. It is absolutely, completely, and totally 100% legal for them to require your husband to take a lunch break, even if the law does not.
