I am a salaried manager in an Arkansas retail store. I found out that as of Saturday, I will not be given a day off until July 12. I am currently scheduled to work 84 hours next week. Normal is 50. My questions: How many days can a salaried employee be scheduled to work in Arkansas? How many hours can a salaried employee be scheduled to work in a week?

Thank you.

In 48 out of 50 states, including Arkansas, any employee, regardless of exempt status, can be scheduled to work as many hours as the employer needs him to work, and 84 hours a week would still be within the limitations of the two states that have them (with certain qualifications in Maine).

Arkansas is not one of the very few states that requires any days off at all, so technically you could be scheduled to work 365 days a year and it would be legal.

I'm not saying I agree with this kind of scheduling but it is not illegal.

Answer to both is As many as required. Only in very limited occupations, such as interstate trucker, airline pilots and similar, are the hours an employee (exempt or nonexempt) can be required to work. Retail management is known for requiring very long hours and many days working in a row without a day off.

Jinx, cbg. I'm out of town today (and maybe all day tomorrow), just waiting for my room to be finished so I can check in. :)
