My co-worker is 34 weeks pregnant. Her last day as of right now, according to her doctor, is July 13th and she would go on short-term disability. She's due to give birth on July 31st. However, the company is relocating down to Marietta, GA on August 6th and the HR reps do not know if they are legally obligated to pay her while she is out as she has chosen not to go. Are they legally obligated to pay for any of her short-term disability?

Thank you!

She needs to review the terms of her STD policy (the plan documents). Many policies will continue to pay for a condition that begins before the coverage is terminated by job loss, but it's entirely dependent on what the policy says.

Agreed. This is not a question addressed by law in either CT or GA (or most other states). This is strictly a matter of what the STD policy says.
