Hello, I'm a mental health case manager in california. I work with emotionally disturbed youth on or at risk of being involved with juvenile probation. I currently work an Alternative Work Schedule. I work four 10 hour shifts a week. Next month me and two other staff (hourly staff not on alternative schedule) will take a group of youth on an overnight retreat. We will leave on a Wednesday morning say 9AM and should have all the kids home on friday around 6 or 7PM. My question is, how will our overtime be calculated. We will be on duty during the entire trip. We will sleep, but we will be responsible for the youth 24/7. We will never truely be off duty. We are responsible for the youth at all times. We will never be able to truely take a lunch break. Of course we will eat, but we will always be with the youth.
