my employeer does not offer any pay while on maternity leave. thankfully i will have STD to pay me while i'm out. i'll be out for 8 weeks. i really don't know if i'll be returning to work after that. i would like to know if i quit work while on my leave (like around my 6th or 7th week) what happens with the STD? will i still get paid till the end? or would it be best to return to work for 1 day after my leave and tell them that is my last day? also, will STD look at it as my last day of employment being the day before i started my leave? and if so, will i get in penalized for collecting STD?
i'm in louisiana if that helps any.

This is not a question that is determined by law, but by the terms of your STD policy. We have no way of knowing for certain whether they will continue to pay once you give notice. However, it is quite uncommon for a claim to stop when your employment does. In by FAR the majority of cases, once a claim is accepted it continues to the end of the disability (or the limits of the policy) regardless of the status of your employment. In 26 years of administering employer sponsored benefits, I have never seen and only once heard of a plan where benefits stop on the last day of employment.
