I am the Manager of a company that has less than 50 employees and our HR director quit and the owner has yet to hire a new HR person.

I have an employee who is 6 months pregnant and her doctor is telling her she can only work part time for the rest of her pregnancy. Could she collect partial SDI and how would this affect her if in a couple months they take her out completely?

FMLA does not apply, but PDL can provide up to 4 months of leave and can be taken time off intermittently during pregnancy, e.g. morning sickness, prenatal care..etc, and she can apply for PFL for 6 weeks of pay and SDI depending on the pregnancy situation. She is protected under ADA and may need to provide a reasonable accommodation if needed.

Droopy - at the Federal level, pregnancy is NOT protected under the ADA except under very limited circumstances. Is this something California-specific?

I may have worded incorrectly, that pregnancy would fall onto ADA depending the situation of the pregnancy. But under FEHA, California version of ADA which have a lower standard than the federal standard of the definition disable, making it easier to qualify under California law.
