View Full Version : Not being paid, what should I do? New York

Hello again,

I’ll be leaving my job in a few days because I’m not getting paid.
Since 12/15/2007 I’ve only been paid twice (we should be paid every 15 days), and now my company owes me around $7800.

I want to recover my money and as I don’t have much money left for hiring a lawyer, I’m going to try the Department of Labor first. If somebody has been through it, can you please tell me:
Is the department of labor effective? Can they force my company to pay me?
How long does the process take? (more or less)
What documentation do I need from my employer to help the process and that I should ask for before I leave my job? (I’m still in good terms with my boss).

If you consider that the Department of Labor is not an effective choice, what choices do I have? how much does suing my company using a lawyer cost? (approximated)
And how long does it take the process with a lawyer? (also an approximation helps)
And the documentation needed from my employer?

Thanks a million in advance!!
