Ok so i am having somewhat of an issue. My employer does not fall under the FLMA ( what ever the law is called) because he only has 7 employee' s but he is still giving me 12 weeks off. The only problem is that i need to get paid during this time..... i have looked at all individual insurence policies but get the same answer every time...you have a pre-existing condition and can not be covered for paid any "shot term disability"

What can i do for income...are there any state funding plans, OHP, DHS anything!!!! i am getting very frustrated with this. And if there is nothing out there what can i do to help change the laws in oregon to those of say California where state disability is covered???????

There are only five states (California being one of them) that have a state disability plan. You can lobby your elected representatives for change.

An individual policy is not going to cover you for a condition that already exists. While health insurance policies are prohibited from calling pregnancy a pre-existing condition, disability insurance policies are not.

I have no way of knowing what state assistance programs exist in your state. I would suggest that you contact the state Department of Human Services; they should be able to guide you.
