alright, who can help with this? i am a school teacher trying to get my paid sick days. i didn't want to put my school out or the class by leaving mid year, so i planned my pregnancy over the summer. now i realize that i don't need maternity, so i won't get a chance to use my sick days and get three months of free pay (that i earned). i am due in late august and had not planned on coming back. now, if i did come back my maternity would take me through thanksgiving. i have 51 sick days which is over $6,000 dollars. is there any way to get this money without having to sign a contract pretending that i will come back. i really don't want to lead my school on but this is $6,000 dollars! also, i work for the catholic diocese. my school has told me they don't pay for sick days but i wondered if there was any way around that. another girl just left my school last week on maternity leave. she gets paid because she had her baby during the school year but i don't since i didn't want to disturb my class/students. really wanting to do the right thing here but wondering what is best.

There is no law in Ohio requiring the payout of sick days at termination. Unless your union contract or district policy addresses this situation, it appears you're SOL.
