Hi all - I'm hoping someone can clarify an issue for me. It is my understanding that an employer would need to pay an overtime rate of pay to employees for mandatory training. Example: Employee works 8 hours for the day then comes in to the office and completes a training course that takes another 2 hours OR the employee works 40 hours for the week and completes two hours of mandatory training on Saturday (workweek is Sun-Sat). The employer would need to pay the 2 hours at an overtime rate. Again, this is mandatory training required by the employer and is directly related to the employee's job. Can someone please verify and correct me if I am wrong. Much appreciated.

Even if the training is not related to the job, if it is mandatory, it is paid time.

If that involves overtime, then the employee gets paid overtime.
