I am a receptionist at a local animal hospital. Since hiring a few new women last year we have had alot of problems with the daily cash drawer balancing.
Periodically, the cash drawer is as much as 100 dollars off as was the case this past Friday.
I have heard that the $100 the drawer was short will be charged to the 5 women working on Friday.

Is this not the cost of doing business? I just cannot believe that I would be responsible to cover for the theft/poor math skills of a co-worker.

Please help...
I am already very unhappy at this workplace and this is just adding to my dislike of this company.

No.

But they cannot dock your pay for the shortage, either, even if they could narrow down the problem to alone.

The company can find and fire the thief, but it cannot make up the losses out of the pay of the employees.

ScottB,
Thanks for the input! I feel relieved to know this! If they do decide to charge us for the cost of the loss..I am running...not walking to the nearest labor law attorney! lol
Have a great day!

You don't need an attorney. If the deduction is made from the paychecks without the employees' written authorization, you can file a claim for unauthorized deductions with the state Dept. of Labor for free.
