How long do you have to work for a company to be able to collect unemployment if you get laid off?

I still work for the company...just have a feeling with the way business is going that they may be laying people off soon...

I've been there less than a year....

State rules vary.

In my state, if you work for moret than five weeks, you will get umpemployment benefits, even if you only worked one hour in each of those five weeks.

And, it depends on how much in wages you earned during the benefit eligibility period, no matter from how many different employers. In Arizona, they look at a one-year period called the base period. In most instances the base period will be the first four of the last five completed calendar quarters prior to the date you first applied for unemployment insurance.

So, if you were to apply in March, it would be the 4th quarter of 2005 through the 3rd quarter of 2006 (2005-4 through 2006-4 being the last full 5 quarters).
