I have a question about Arizona labor laws.

Scenario:

Person works for small nonprofit organization for approximately 6 years, approximately 20 hours per week.

Person is told that they are being "let go" because the powers that be have decided to hire another person in another capacity. They cannot afford to keep both people.

Is it legal to "let go" someone for this reason? Person has been an examplary employee for 6 years; no blemish on the person's employment record. The only reason they were let go, according to what they were told, is because they needed to hire someone else in another capacity and could not afford them anymore.

Legal? No?

Unemployment? No?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Legal, yes.

Unemployment, yes.

I'm not saying it's fair, but no law prohibits it.
