I am an exempt employee at a Michigan company. We have a union working on our site whose contact is about to expire. Our management has informed us that they will be moving travel trailers onto the work site and requiring all exempt employees to stay on site 24 hrs/day during any labor action by the union. They also put out that they will only pay for actual hours worked, not for time spent on the site away from families. Anyone who does not stay on site will be terminated. Are there any laws or regulations covering this situation? If possible please cite the appropriate source. Thanks.

You are going to work as the employer directs or be on the street.
It is very common for non-union, exempt employees to be required to do ALL the work during a labor dispute.
You don't want to help out, find another job.

Scott, I understand that you don't know if there are any laws governing this situation.
I am not disputing that the employer can determine work hours. But I'm skeptical about the legality of requiring employees to remain at the work site around the clock and not have to compensate them. I asked about whether there were laws covering the situation.
There are no circumstances whatsoever in which the law requires an exempt employee to be paid any additional compensation over and above their regular salaries.

Yes, ScottB DOES know, don't get snarky.:mad: There are no laws requiring exempt employees to EVER be paid more than their regular weekly salary, no matter HOW many hours they work. There.

A simple, there are no laws on the books supporting exempt employees would have sufficed.
Both he and you have received the response generated by your attitudes while posting them. If you do not desire a "snarky" response then don't be abrasive in your posts. I'd rather they were ignored.
