I have a co-worker that I have worked with full time for two plus years. She is considering accepting a six month temporary position at another company in hope of being hired on permanently. if at the end of six months, she is not hired on would she be eligible for unemployment benefits knowing that it was only a temperary position to begin with?

That decision is at the hands of your state's unemployment commission.
Typically a worker will qualify for unemployment is the separation is through no fault of his/her own (i.e. layoff). In this situation, my best guess is that your friend would likely qualify for unemployment benefits.

Being in the temp agency business, if one of our temps works for us for five consecutive weeks and leaves for any reason other than misconduct or a personal reason (such as lack of transportation or day care problems), they usually qualify for unemployment.
