My son's position was recently eliminated with his former employer. He is married, two children, a son and a stepdaughter. His wife refuses to seek child support for her daughter from her previous husband because she is afraid of the man. When my son went to file today for unemployment compensation today, the agent told him that his wife would have to seek child support from her ex-husband or my son would be ineligible for benefits!

This is ludicrous, and I believe the agent was mis-informed. Is my son eligible for unemployment compensation? I see no reason why his employment history should/would/could be linked to another man's irresponsible behavior. (I live in a different state and haven't an inkling when it comes to Missouri law.)

I have no idea, but that doesn't make any sense.
Shoot, he should just file. If he's denied, he can appeal.

And his wife needs to get a backbone and go after the child support.

He filed. With a different person this time. No problem.

The first woman he talked to was very misinformed. Asked too many questions that simply did not pertain.

I agree.

The child support should play no factor in determining if your husband is/isn't eligible for unemployment benefits.
