I am trying to get clarification on the maximum number of hours an employee can work in a day before the employer is required to pay them overtime. I think that in PA (as well as Federal), the standard is based on a 40-hour work week and anything above and beyond 40 hours equals overtime pay, but I don't think there is anything based on the # of hours worked in one day. A link to where I can find the exact answer would also be appreciated. Thank you.

There are only four states that require overtime to be calculated on a daily basis.

In California, Nevada and Alaska, overtime needs to be paid after 8 hours in a day. In Colorado, overtime needs to be paid after 12 hours in a day.

In ALL other states, without exception, overtime is only due after 40 hours in a week, even if the employee works 24 hours a day.
