I have a 12 month lease, that I am 8 months into and my job is transfering me out of state. Do I have any legal rights for ending my lease early. I expect to loose deposit. I have given 30 days notice but landlord says I owe two months rent for buy out of lease.

If the lease had such an option, it would be specifically written in the lease. I haven't seen a lease that has had this option. Best to be friendly with the landlord and try to work out a way to minimize the payments.

I am not sure with your state, but a lot of states require that the landlord attempt to re-rent the apartment.

An early out of your lease due to job transfer would depend on your state law. I remember reading where in one state if your job takes you over 50 miles away you can get out of your lease. But you should talk to your employment office and demand that they pay off your lease, unless of course you asked for the transfer. The offer of 2 months rent for getting out of your lease is not unusual and in my opinion quite fair.
