I switched to part time at a co. that I have worked for for 7 years. The HR lady is telling me that the law says I am limited to 25 hrs. everyone I talk to says that she is incorrect. She is also telling me that Aetna says that I can not get on the Co. health Ins. ( at my cost ) and have it deducted from my paycheck. I now know this was a lie after contacting Aetna. They have no such rule. Does any one out there know what the law is on this? I do not want to confront her, or go over her head without having my "Ducks in a row". I am most interested in the 25 hr. limit issue, I have never heard of this. I thought it was 32 hrs. Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

It isn't 25 or 32 or anything. The law does not define how many hours are part-time or full-time; that's up to the company.

Regarding insurance, the plan document will specify the eligibility rules for coverage. If the plan provides that part-time employees (however the company has defined that) are not eligible, then they aren't. You can ask HR for a copy of the Summary Plan Document for the insurance plan where you can check the rules for eligibility yourself.
