I live in NC in a 2 bdrm trailer, on what I guess is a verbal lease. When we moved in, there was a soft spot in the floor (many of the floors come to find out). The landlord said she did not want to fix them until "someone almost goes through". She also stated that her husband has to put a new door up in front as it was apparently kicked in at some point and there are 1" gaps between the door and frame.
Well we have lived here 2 years now. No new door.
After 1 year the LL stated she was thinking of selling, but would give us 1st dibs. In Oct she (the landlord) stated she was thinking of putting it on the market in Nov or Dec.
It is now the middle of Jan. and our floor has caved in. It is at our front door, (be careful if you enter this way, our normal entrance) and goes across the hall way and into the bathroom where it has collapsed around the toilet, rendering the toilet unuseable. This is a 2nd bathroom.
When we called she said we have 60 days to move, she isn't fixing it, if we don't want to buy then she is towing the 1979 trailer off and selling the land.
What can I do? I have a 15 month old child and an 18 year old child. the 18 year old has to pass this caved in floor to get to his room. It is difficult to block the area completely off from my 15 month old and he has already fallen and bumped his head twice in this area.
We have had other issues with her trying to make us pay for repairs to plumbing problems and busted pipes, and have had to wait 2 or 3 days for the a/c to get fixed during a heat wave while I was pregnant. We have had and still have broken faucets and disconnected drains on the tub which I have to use to bath the baby.
Help, I don't know what to do, my fiance says i'm being a "mean" person, and should leave it alone as he does not want to leave on bad terms.
