At what age in the State of Texas can a child or teenager decide which parent they can live with and what is the process to get that change?

In order to have the custody order modified, the parent that wants the child to live with him or her will have to file in court for a modification of custody. Normally, a judge will allow the child to express his or her preference around the age of 12, but it is not required by law that he do so, and he is certainly not bound by law to abide by the child's wishes. There is only one state in which the child has the right to decide at age 14...and that is NOT Texas.
