We are required to take an hour lunch. Employees are no longer allowed to park in the parking lot at our office building. We are now required to park across the street.
To legally get from the parking lot to the office takes 15 mins. Does this now mean that our lunch is only 1/2 an hour? The only other way to get to the parking lot faster is to jaywalk across a very busy 4 lane street. We are being encouraged to jaywalk and I don't want to get hit by a car, niether do I want a ticket.
Must they allow extra time for us during the required lunch?
Thanks!

No, they do not. Louisiana law doesn't even require a meal break at all. You are given one hour to do whatever you want to do; if that includes walking to/from your car so you can drive to get a meal, so be it.

I just answered your PM asking the same question. I am copying my response here only for the benefit of other readers. I would prefer that you not PM with such questions unless there is a specific reason you don't want the answer of the public forum. Thanks for understanding.

All states must follow federal law. If you require the employees to come to the office first the yes, you must pay from the office to the job site and the job site back to the office (or the next job site).
