Is It Legal for an employer to withhold pay for not turning in fuel receipts for fuel put into a company vehicle,IE.. if I get fuel in the company truck and forget to turn in the receipt that day (we have a charge account at a local chain of gas stations) He says he will take that amount out of our pay!
He made some of the emplyees sign a letter stating that .
Can someone tell me where I can get an answer and references?
We are a local product delivery supply service, we leave and return to the store the same day, normally a 10 hr workday.

If the employee authorized the deduction should this situation occur, it would not be an illegal action under Mississippi law. Best way to handle this is to not forget. :)

The employees did not sign an authorization,it was an acknowledgement of receipt of the threat.
It was worded like this :
If a driver gets fuel and does not turn in the receipt the same day then that driver just bought that fuel.
sign below and return to the ______ office.

That is not an authorization for withholding.
So is it legal in Ms.?

My employer has the exact same policy, and while I have never been charged, I was notified when I was late turning one in. It is part of what you are being paid to do. It is literally part of your job description which means it is a disciplinary subjective action, or non-action as the case may be. Don't loose that receipt!

I could not find any MS law that would prohibit it. My previous admonition still applies, however......don't forget. ;)
