Less than a second after I signed my lease I was told that the apartment had old piping and leaked so the water bills were divided up among all the residents to make it fair. Hah, how convenient for it to slip their mind until after I had already signed the lease. Come to find out I wasn't the only unlucky one, many residents were also tricked into signing the lease without any knowledge of this problem. Here's the kicker though, the average water bill I've heard of in other apartment complex's is approximately $40 a month give or take. I'm forced to shell out well over $150 per month on water alone and I don't even have a washing machine. On top of it all my shower has stopped working for the past few months even though maintenance has given me around 3 separate visits to fix the problem. My question is, if the broken pipes are leaking underground around $90 (per dozens of apartments) in water per month, then how much sewage is leaking due to the same crappy pipes? Another question, how is it even legal for them to force their residents to pay for their own negligence? What can I do?
