So I got laid off in New Hampshire. And started immediately collecting unemployment. Then 4 months later, still unemployed and collecting. I then receive my severence check in a lump sum from my previous employer. Now unemployment tells me I owe them $2000 because they took my severence and divided it up by my regular pay each week and Im not eligible to collect for many months more.

It was a lump sum, so can it be applied to all the weeks? Or just that week?

What resources do I have to combat this? Looking for free help, I'm not interested in hiring a lawyer. Maybe a free legal help line? I'm still unemployed so I have plenty of time to work on this myself. I also enjoy the legal process so its a learning experience.

Call the UI agency and ask. I'm not sure we have any NH attorneys who follow this board.
