I work in the Satellite industry and I was back charged for a job where I supposely damaged a customers siding. The person waited a few months before the complaint and they decided to complain about the siding being drilled threw for the cable to come into the house. THe back charge is for more than 700 Dollars and my company told me if I didn't sign I wouldn't be issued equipement to work. Is this legal, and what can I do about it?
I already signed because if I didn't work I basically would loose my place of residence. Please help.....

If you were coerced into signing a document that authorized a deduction from your paycheck, you may have a claim for the deduction with the state Dept. of Labor.
If this WAS deducted from your pay, contact the state DOL.

Now I still work for this company. Should I try and talk to the main boss about this first and see what he says or should I go straight to the DOL since they obviously know what they are doing is wrong? Could someone also give me a link to the DOL that would let me send them my concern. Thank you.

The basic premise is that a worker may be held responsible for damages.
Pattymd was only explaining that certain provisions must exist in order for a payroll deduction to be lawful. Even if the deduction was not lawful, it would not negate your responsibility to repay damages. It would only eliminate the option of a payroll deduction.
You could still be fired for non-compliance or sued via a civil complaint.
You suggest discussing options with your boss. This is always a good starting point. It's possible that some other arrangement could be worked out.
