I was terminated yesterday by phone. It was a direct result of a license to work that I needed being revoked. Last night I file for unemployment online. tonight I received a call from my now former employer telling me that they would afford me the opportunity to resign instead of being terminated. The were concerned that the termination would affect my future employment and they didn't want that to happen. Personally, I think that's a load of **** and they're just trying to get out of paying unemployment. I've had absolutly no disciplinary action in the almost 3 years I've worked there and all of my annual reviews have been excellent. I don't think that the termination will affect my future employment since this issue is being appealed and can be explained. What do you think? should I take the resignation?

As someone who see lots and lots of applications, I trust applications that say "fired" for the reason they left a job. I can then ask why. Being fired is not always bad.

When it says "resigned" I ask why.

If you say it was to take a better opportuity and the next job does not reflect that, then I will start digging into details. You may not be willing to disclose those details in an interview, but if I don't get them from your or the past employer, you won't get the job with me.
