View Full Version : Exempt employee = Slavery? Federal

I was wondering how it is legal (other than schmucks who passed the exempt status into a law that would never affect them) to force an employee to work an unlimited number of hours without compensation, time or pay?

I work between 60-80 hours a week with a pay check that clearly states 80 hours (for 2 weeks) and there is so much work to do that I am not able to get a break. If I did receive compensation time, my companies would owe me almost a year of time off. I have twice as may customers as my co-workers and I have not received any compensation for the amount of work I have put into my job. I am starting to feel, due to my work ethic, that my company is taking advantage of my tenacity to "stay the course."

Other than finding another job, do I have any recourse?

I work between 60-80 hours a week with a pay check that clearly states 80 hours That would be a default in the payroll system and does not have anything to do with the number of hours you are required to work. If your position qualifies as exempt, then they do not need to pay you any additional compensation no matter how many hours you work.

You are hardly a slave - you are free to quit this job and find another any time you like.

In fact, I find the reference to slavery to be highly offensive.
