I returned to workafter being out for 11 weeks due to non-elective surgery.
I am a Office Manager for a small landscaping firm.
For the past 6 years and 9 months, I work a 4/10 schedule. (Mon-Thur).
This has worked out well for both the employer and myself. This agreement was put in writting to cover both the employer and myself, so I was told. I have other commitments on Friday, so the schedule worked well.
I returned to a note that states: "
The needs of our business require that we have bookkeeping, phone and customer service Monday-Friday. The hours of your position have changed to 5 days a week, 7:30-4:30 with lunch from 11:30-12:. ...
Starting tomorrow, please plan for your work schedule according."

1-Can this be done?
2-I believe that I am being forced to quit. When I asked the owner this question directly, he refused to answedr it.
3-What rights do I as an employee have?

Thank you to anyone who can shed some light on this situation. I feel that I am being 'punished' for needing non-elective surgery.

The employeer is well within their rights to change your working hours to whatever they see fit.

You, as the employee, are well within your rights to find alternate employement.

I don't see you being "punished"; if that were the case, you would be the ONLY employee required to work the M-F schedule. Just because that schedule worked out for the employer before, doesn't mean they have to continue it in perpetuity if business needs call for a change. Even a written agreement means nothing legally, unless it rises to a valid, enforceable contract, which is highly unlikely.
