What are the rules about issuing a second check/correcting a check for an employee who is mis-paid due to missed punches? Employee in question was asked to make any corrections necessary to time card before it was processed. His supervisor was also asked to ensure that all necessary information was on the time card.

Does a second check have to be issued or can we wait to pay the additional hours until the next paycheck, since the error was made by the employee.

There is no specific time stated in the law; only that employees must be paid for all time worked. If the time is substantial however, say 1 day or more, I would (in my payroll dept.) issue a manual check. I would also consider disciplining the employee (and the supervisor; doesn't he/she have to approve the time and correct any errors before the time file gets transmitted to payroll?) for failure to follow company procedures.

Slight clarification. The law in CA does specifically state that overtime can be paid on the next paycheck.
