How long does it typically take to get a judgement in a child custody case? I am afraid my ex (he has custody) will make life harder for my son during the procedings because my son wants to live with me. Also afraid I won't get visitation after I file for custody because my ex is very spiteful and mean.

The time it'll take varies from one case to another so there's really no way of even hedging a guess. If ex refuses vistits during proceedings you'll have to file for contempt (which will only strengthen your case). If ex does something to make son's life harder you'll need to try to document it for use in court.
