 I need help finding information about child support laws. I met my boyfriend 6 months ago, he's a great guy but he was having difficulties finacially because of child support due in Kentucky. He paid support until his daughter was 4 in Kentucky. He lost his job in KY so he moved to Indiana to find work, while here he got into some minor trouble with the law (DUI) and was placed on probation. With court fines and alcohol classes his child support got behind. The childs mother did not allow him to see his child and now the child herself has stated that she does not know him and doesn't want to (she calls her mothers husband Dad). He missed his last alcohol class and they put a warrant out for him in IN. When he was arrested they gave him 6 months and now KY has a Hold on him. My question actually has 2 parts How much time is he facing and If I start paying child support for him will that help him get out any sooner. He had just got a good job and as soon as we got caught up we were going to start paying. I have 2 children from a previous marriage and I do not receive support. And IN has done nothing to their father as of yet.

We will have so many questions.
1) Do YOU have a court order for YOUR ex to pay support?
2) Does your boyfriend have court ordered custody/visitation for his daughter?
3) How many months has your boyfriend not paid support?

I do have a court order but have not really persued it because he is active in my children's lives and putting him in jail would hurt them more than not having the $45 dollars a week. I'm pretty sure he did have visitation at one time I don't know about now. He had an appointment with the Family Court in KY to sign away his rights at the mother's request but missed it because he was detained here in jail. He has not paid for 2yrs 4 months and owes about 12,000 he was ordered to pay 100 weekly which at the time of the order he could afford but he hasn't made that much in recent years. So, what do you think?

You can pay his support payments if you would like too. Make sure the checks are made out to the child support office and send them in. I don't think it will make him get out of jail any sooner but it will help. even if you are only sending 50.00 a week. Is his child's mother's new husband is willing to adopt, and if dad want's to do that ask her if she will forgive all child support he owe's.

It may not do any good for you to pay CS for him. Since he's already in jail and facing contempt charges due to arrears most likely the only thing that will make a difference is if all arrears are paid in full. If that can't be done, he can try talking to the CSE agency and working out a deal to pay a percentage up front with current support and extra for arrears being paid every week. In that situation you would be able to make the payments for him and it would do some good.
