My husband works for a NON-UNION company and they are telling him along with the others that if they don't work the 12 hrs/day, 7 days/week then they will find someone that will. Where they are working is dangerous (Oil Refinery) and I am curious to know if they can legally force them to work all these hours without time off. Most of the guys have to drive over an hour to and from so it's more like 14/15 hrs a day. Isn't there a law out there?

Not for general occupations, no. I'm not sure what he does, but I know in the oil/gas drilling industry, 12-hour days on a rotation schedule of, say 7 on/7 off, up to 28 on/28 off, is the standard. Is he on a rotation schedule?
Having said that, though, I think it's generally kind of stupid to let employees work that long for extended periods of time for the exact reasons you mention.
What kind of inherently dangerous situations are we talking about and what are his duties?

Well My first question is are you worried about it or him?
My reply to this would have to be for him to get a diff. job. If there working him days a week.. Maybe he should talk to his boss and ask him why its like this... see what goes on from there.. :o

We're not sure what this poster's husband does or if this schedule is standard in the industry. It may be. Besides, she asked what was legal? ;) Plus, we have no idea if another job would be any different.
