Is there a law in CT with specific guidlines as to the procedures that have to be followed in disiplining employees in the form of verbal or written? I was always under the impression that if there was a situation where disipline was needed, your first was a verbal warning knowing if it happened again you would receive a written. 3 writtens on the same problem was termination. Is this true?

And also, say, if a minor (petty) incident happened in August but absolutely nothing was said to you about it until November...can you still get written up for it?

My boss has it out for me, just because she doesnt like me as a person, it has nothing to do with my work performance. Would this be concidered harrassment? Should I go to her boss??

There are no such laws in any state. It's appropriate when the employer deems it appropriate. Union contracts often have progressive discipline policies, but that's a function of the contract, not of law.

Your boss not "liking you" is not harrassment, either legal or illegal. Unless there is something VERY wrong going on, I would not recommend going over her head. What is she doing?

hi, thank you for replying. my boss just doesnt like me for whatever her reason. Im a hairstylist, and have been with this salon for 4 years (my boss has only been there a year), but i have been with this corporation for 10 years. im a decent employee, reliable, always early, rarely call out sick, rarely ask for time off, flexible schedule, good with our customers (have a good size clientel), follow the rules. she is writting me up for a customer complaint from July or August. today was the first i heard of this complaint and i received a written warning. she has even gone as far as also writting me up for not dusting the product shelves. (they didnt get dusted because i was busy customers). she purposely blames situations on me...even if i wasnt even working that day. she lies and twists her words to make herself look good to her boss and make me look bad. i had a wake to go to about a month ago, that particular day i was supposed to work the night shift. when i spoke to her on the phone she gave me permission to leave early to attend the wake. the next day she reprimanded me for abandoning my shift and said she never gave me permission. she has voided sales from my reciepts and re-rang them up under herself. before she started working there i was a 32hr a week employee, within the last 8 months im down to 25hrs a week. there is alot more that she has done, but i think you get the idea. im getting reprimanded for petty things...things that no one should be reprimanded for.

Does your pay depend on your sales reciepts? If you are getting less because she is reringing these under her name, then I personally would go over her head. Did you ask her why she did this? Did you see her do this? If there is a complaint, or problem, from a day you were not there, that would be a good time to go over her head, since you can prove that you did not do it since you were not there. I Never tell a poster to do something like this, but she has the right to discipline you, no matter how petty it seems to you, but she does not have the right to re ring something up, under her name, to make it look like you are an unproductive worker (which might explain the cut in hours). Pattymd, or Elliemd, or CBG may be able to give you a more precise answer. Good luck to you!

I agree with Turbowray in that, if you are paid commissions based on your sales, and she id reallocating your sales to herself, then I would go to her boss. Other than that, although I don't disagree that the treatment you are receiving appears petty and nit-picky, it's not illegal.
