My employer is going to "paperless pay" and everyone who doesn't have direct deposit is now being issued a pay card, like a debit card.

My manager screwed around and is just now telling us that it's "urgent" that we pick up the card today and complete paperwork if we want to be paid on Friday.

I work from home and only go into the office on payday (when I had the paper check), every other Friday.

This task will take me about 1.5 to 2 hours and will cut into my work schedule, possibly making me short my daily required 8 hours... because we are only allowed to work at home from 8 to 8 and today is also voting day.

I'm just wondering if this would be along the lines of a "meeting" where we should be paid. She will not mail the card and paperwork.

Thanks in advance!

Even if they paid you for the time in completing the paperwork while you were in the office (similar to a "meeting"), there is no requirement for them to pay you for the travel time an extra trip to the office is going to entail.

How much time can that be? No more than 5-10 minutes, I would imagine. However, if you are doing this during your regular work hours, I personally would pay for the time.

It will probably take 30 minutes, there is a lot of paperwork and stuff has to be faxed to the corporate office while I'm there.

Thanks for the reply. It's just an annoyance because if she'd handled this properly I could have taken care of it when I picked up my last paper check.. and she doesn't cut us any slack on required hours even when she knows we have to come in to the office for other stuff.

Ah, but there are advantages to working from home. :)
