I was laid off and decided to start my own company. Can I still collect unemployment since it is not apparrent if I will even make any money yet to be able to pay myself a paycheck. The company I started is a Limited Liability Company.

If I do make a sale and earn some money in revenue, does this qualify as earning a living? I suppose that at the end of the year I will most likely be at a loss in my first year with all of my start up expenses.

Right now I have not earned any revenue but I have formed the company on paper and registered it with the state of Michigan.

You should ask your questions of the folks who are sending you the dough.

You'd hate to lose your business because you did something stupid and illegal.

In my state, if you work over a certain number of hours per week at your own business (I believe it's 20 but it's been a couple of years since I discussed this with them so I could be wrong) it is considered that you are not putting enough time into a job search and benefits can be terminated.

You need to discuss your state's regulations with the UC office.

Good advise and thank you. Hopefully the staes interpretation is clear cut. I am a first timer in this states system and my experience so far has been that too much is up to the interpretation of the clerk who answers the phone, just want to be as prepared as possible.

Thanks!
