Is it legal for an employer to offer an employee compensation to drop his unemployment Insurance claim??

I have never heard that before.

Given the way unemployment works, it would probaly cost the company more to pay some compensation than to eat the costs of the unemployment.

It is not ... or rather let me state that that kind of agreement is a violation of public policy. In other words, you could agree to it, but still file a claim and continue to file your weekly claims and the employer could not argue that there is a legally enforceable agreement whereby you agreed to forego your unemployment benefits.

I think the company would be trying to prevent thier ins. premium to increase. This is where the cost savings would apply.
