This isn't really employment law but I'll do my best.

Will you have employees working for you? There are a lot of other things you need to do if you will be hiring people, than if you'll be self employed with no one working for you.

If you are forming a corporation or an LLC and plan to do business under the name of the corporation or LLC, you do not register the tradename. That type of registration is used by sole proprietorships, association of individuals, or other entities that want to "do business" under a different name. If your corporation is named something like "37 Lockwood Corp." and you want to do business under "Larry's Car Wash" then you do need to file.

Here are some things to add to your checklist:

1. If you are forming a corporation, you should add to your checklist a determination of whether you want to file with the IRS to become an S Corporation. The S election must be filed within 2 months and 15 days.

2. Depending upon the type of business, there may be state or local business registration requirements.

3. You should set up an accounting system. Keeping accounting records in a program like Quickbooks is simple but it is important that it be set up right from the start. If you don't thoroughly understand double entry bookkeeping and charts of accounts, you should get help from an accountant to make sure that everything is set up correctly.

4. If you have a unique name for your service or product, you may want to apply for federal trademark registration.

Good luck.

3. You should set up an accounting system.

You will have the option, one time only, with limited exceptions, of being cash based accounting or accrual based. There are plusses and minuses to each one.

My late father preferred the cash based method, but I hate it.

Im from London UK and I plan to start a consulting firm since I'm in the Information Technology(IT) sector all my work and business will incline toward IT recruitment and staffing
in other words an IT Consultancy

Contact the organization I referred you to earlier. Or the Small Business Adminstration. This is not a do-it-yourself project.
