I'm sure this is a common question and one you've been over many times before. Your help is greatly appreciated.

When does overtime kick in? Over 8 hours in a day or over 40 hours in a work week? We get paid semi-monthly. Administrative nightmare :)

Ex:
Monday 8 hours
Tuesday 8 hours
Wednesday 7 hours
Thursday 9 hours
Friday 9 hours
Total for work week: 41 hours

However, Thursday and Friday over 8 hours. Do you count this as two hours of overtime or simply just one hour.

In most states, it would be only one hour (over 40), but you are in the People's Republic of California and those two 9 hour days each tag the employer for an hour of overtime for a total of two hours.

It gets worse. Try thirteen hour days. Try (what is it?) six consecutive days. Gets weird.

Thank you for your response and glad you can find humor in such a boring subject. This really helped! I'll stick with the 5 day work week and a couple of overtimes here and there. :)
