my husband has been working 7 days a week for over a year now. They do pay overtime, but if he wants any weekends off, well that is just unheard of. He is on the afternoon shift & can't remotely have any kind of life like this with his family. He did tell them once that he would not be in on a particular Sat. so he could celebrate his two daughters birthdays that had been 8 & 6 months prior to the celebration. They ended up calling him & telling him that he needed to come in. He did refuse, but they gave him such a hard time. He rarely takes any kind of a break & works 8 - 9 hours every night. He is in the maintence field & if something is down obviously it needs to be fixed for production to run. But is it legal for them to make him work 7 days in a row all the time? He is wiped out, but loves his job. Is there anything he can do to at least get a day off once in a while?

I don't disagree that such a schedule for such a long period of time is unliveable. And my opinion is that it is not smart for employers to be working employees 7 days a week for months on end; it's not safe and it contributes to burn-out and eventual loss of employees.

Having said all that, however, there is no law in Michigan that prevents the employer from requiring it.

If you are an adult, the employer has the right to schedule however they feel they need you. There is no minimum or maximum number of hours.

This will have to be resolved internally. Sorry.
