The concept of fidelity in marriage is such an outdated mode of thinking and one that, I believe, goes against the grain of human nature. I do not know, or care how fidelity fits with human nature. I do know that fidelity is not an outdated mode of thinking.

I could be wrong but the statistics on adultery seem to attest to fidelity
not being high on many people's list.

On the contrary, the "statistics" on adultery aren't evidence of that
at all. Adultery has _always_ been common, so if it is an outdated
way of thinking, it always has been (how can it always have been
outdated?).

The fact that it isn't especially rare doesn't indicate that people
don't find fidelity important, it just indicates that some people are
unable to cleave steadfastly to what they find important.

Many, most, all... whatever. Many, most, some people are still faithful
'till death do us part.

What ARE the statistics on adultry anyway?

Are you trying to invite the soc.boys in here again?

The aren't very good statistics. Adultery is something (suprise!)
that people lie about, so it is hard to collect good data. In
addition, organizations like the U.S. Census bureau don't collect that
particular vital statistic!

Now the soc.boys crowd like to quote statistics about the percentage
of paternity tests that show the husband _isn't_ the father. Of
course they don't realize that paternity tests only happen when there
are questions about the paternity of the child. They consider this
evidence that some huge percentage of married women are adulterers.

I suspected exactly that.
