If you are talking about multiple days or weeks, then FMLA MAY be an option. Care to provide more details? angrey worker 10-19-2006, 05:53 PM i work for a family owned company we are unuion, i have'nt missed but 4 days within 5 months we work outside doing lighting protection. i had to take off work because my child needed taken care of breathing treatments etc. i just don't want to be harrased or threatend about my job because of something like this, i really don't know any thing about flma at all . one ? is should my boss have flma papers to fill out at work. robb71 10-19-2006, 06:01 PM If you have only been there for 5 months, you are not yet eligible for FMLA. You must be employed at least 12 months and have worked at least 1,250 hours during the last year. These are only a couple of the requirements for FMLA. For more information, please visit this link: http://www.dol.gov/dol/topic/benefits-leave/fmla.htm. Since you work under a collective bargaining agreement, it may be worthwhile to check with your union rep to see if this is covered under your CBA. angrey worker 10-19-2006, 06:15 PM ive worked foe this company for 8 yrs robb71 10-19-2006, 06:29 PM FMLA forms do not have to be in the boss' office. Most likely HR handles these types of requests and provides necessary forms. In order to invoke FMLA you must apply. It's not uncommon for an employer to require a medical certification. This is your starting point. FMLA may be taken intermittantly; although it may be tough to schedule since it sounds like you will never know when you may need off. ScottB 10-20-2006, 02:07 AM Does the employer meet the requirements for providing FMLA? It needs to have more than 50 employees within a 75 mile radius of the job site. Missing four days in five months is NOT a good track record. cbg 10-20-2006, 09:30 AM And a one-day absence does not fall under FMLA unless the FMLA has already been approved for intermittant absences. For that specific condition. |
