I am a civilian dispatcher for a police department. Therefore, I am a municipal government employee. A fellow employee told me that there is a federal law stating that any overtime worked on a 7th consecutive day must be compensated at 2 times the hourly wage, rather than the regular 1.5. I can't find anything on this. Are they yanking my chain?

Also, regarding this 7th day overtime, we just got a new contract. It's retroactive to January 1st and we're trying to figure out how much retro money we're entitled to. Our new contract states the following: "Double time shall be paid for all hours worked on the seventh consecutive day of work."

Here is my question regarding the contract: What if we work more than 7 days? Example: I work 10 days in a row without a day off. Do I get double time on days 7, 8, 9, and 10? Or just 7?

There is no such federal law.

Without having the contract to review, this is just a guess that there is some limit related to a seven day work week, so Day Eight would actually be Day One of a new work week.
